1 & 2 Bedroom | Tabernash Colorado Cabin Rentals
This town has deep Indian roots and folk lore tales to enjoy. The early settlers to this area were Ute and Arapahoe Indians. After the warring tribes settled their differences in the area known then as Ranch Creek Valley, the legend goes on to tell that they buried the devil, but left his thumb exposed to remind them of the evils of war. This rock feature is visible a top the Continental Divide. Devil's Thumb Ranch and Resort has taken their namesake from this feature and today offers first class spa, restaurant and is one of the top Nordic destinations in the area.
In 1902, the chief engineer for the Denver & Salt Lake Railroad, named the town now known as Tabernash after a Ute Indian that was killed in 1878. The tribe moved onto ranching land, turned their horses loose and set up a dry race track. This caused a dispute with the local white ranchers and resulted in a small gun battle, leaving Tabernash dead. After burying Tabernash in a shallow grave, the small Ute tribe left the area.
Vacations Inc offers a couple of small quaint cabins in this locale of the Fraser Valley - very reminiscent of times in the past.
