September/October 2006 Ski Industry News

What’s happening in the ski industry? Here are some of the top stories:
- Talk of global warming completely wiping out the ski industry in the year 2100. Yes, not a lot of us will be around, but can you imagine future generations that will never know the feeling of fresh powder?
- Colorado Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame induct 5 members: Barbara Ferries-Henderson, Mark Tache, Henry Christian Hall, and Jim Temple, and Ray Duncan. The accomplishments of these five incredible individuals include founding two of the premier ski resorts in Colorado, ski jumping, and ski racing. The annual Gala to honor these members will be held October 14, 2006 in Denver.
- Outrage from the seasonal ski workers in the US: Low pay and high cost of living in and around ski resorts is becoming ridiculous. The jobs offer no benefits, and not many Americans are willing to put up with it. Southern Hemisphere folks from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Brazil, and Argentina are the solution.
- U.S. National Ski Hall of Fame and Museum will induct 3 new members for 2006: Jonny Moseley, Trace Worthington and Julie Parisien.
- Like to design? The Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games need a mascot! Entries will be accepted until November 1, 2006.
- Dying to see the new Warren Miller film? “Off the Grid” follows Miller and his adrenaline seeking team through India and Kicking Horse, Canada in an exploratory documentary through places not usually traveled to for snow. Enjoy this film Fall 2006 in theaters.
